Cervical Smears
Cervical cancer is a serious, sometimes fatal, threat to all
women.
The purpose of the cervical smear is to identify
the threat before it actually develops into a cancer and remove
it.
A cervical smear takes cells from the surface of
the organ so that they can be studied under a microscope.
Changes in the cervical cells can thus be detected before
cancer can appear there, and the pre-cancerous cells can be
removed quickly and safely.
Although a cervical smear involves minor
discomfort, it is a small price to pay for the removal of a
threat to peace of mind, health, and even life itself.
All women, who are aged 25 or over, and are, or
have been, sexually active, are urged to make an appointment for
a first smear.
Depending on your age and the results of the
smear test, future tests will be needed at intervals of several
years.
Women, who would never consider having a cavity in a tooth
unattended to, may neglect this much more serious problem.
If you are over 25 and have never had a smear
test, or have not had one for several years, the dedicated team
of health care professionals at the International Medical Centre
advise you to make an appointment as soon as possible.
